Sars Prevention Equipment
Ms Lydia Morton, Australian Deputy Ambassador to China, and Mr Kurexi Maihesuti, Vice Governor- Xinjiang Region, at the handover ceremony Australia Donates SARS Prevention Equipment to Xinjiang - The Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), on behalf of the Australian people, donated equipment to the value of CNY$454,000 to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to support SARS prevention work. This is the largest international donation of SARS prevention equipment received by Xinjiang. The handover ceremony was held at the Xinjiang Regional Bureau of Health on 16 June 2003. Ms Lydia Morton (Australian Deputy Ambassador for China), Mr Andrew Dollimore (Second Secretary, Development Cooperation, Australian Embassy), Mr Kurexi Maihesuti (Vice Governor of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) and other senior Xinjiang government officials attended the ceremony. The equipment donated by AusAID through XJHAPAC includes one ambulance, 200 thermometers and 20,000 masks. At the same time, the Australian Government also provided training on the control of infectious diseases in Xinjiang. The donated equipment will support the region's SARS prevention work in the future
